Ashlar limestone gateway, built c.1800, comprising vehicular entrance with square-profile ashlar piers having carved caps and flanked by square-headed pedestrian gateways set in tooled channelled ashlar walls. Cement-rendered curved quadrant walls to north and south. All gates removed.

This imposing gateway of finely cut limestone blocks designed with Classical proportions attests to the technical dexterity of the stone masons involved in its construction with finely-executed stone details throughout. It creates an elegant formal entrance to the avenue to Hill House, which was formally known as The Hill.
