Ronayns Court

On S side of Douglas estuary; no visible surface trace of 'Ronayn's Court', site now occupied by garage. Stone wall and coach house to rear of garage, 19th century in appearance. Described by Windele in early 19th century as of 'quaint, antiquated appearance....but modern improvement has destroyed all this' (Coleman 1912, 106-7). Inscribed fireplace, with date 1627, from site is now in Blackrock Castle (CO074-052---) (Healy 1988, 150; see ill. JCHAS 1912, opp. 81). Ronayns Court, Monfieldstown is associated with the Ronayne family, who were prominent in the area during the 17th and 18th centuries. The site is remembered for its historical presence near the Douglas estuary, though no visible remains of the original structure survive, having been replaced in the 19th century.
