Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c.1880, having gable-fronted two-storey projecting entrance bay, gable-fronted breakfront end-bay and single-storey canted bay window to front (north-east). Gabled dormers to front and rear (south-west). Gable-fronted two-storey breakfront bay and recent single-storey lean-to additions to rear. Possibly incorporating fabric of earlier building. Pitched L-plan slate roof with rendered and timber clad overhanging eaves, having rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods and carved timber bargeboards to gables and dormers. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with exposed rubble limestone wall to side (north-west) elevation. Square-headed window openings with tooled limestone and replacement render sills throughout. Timber-framed bipartite windows to front elevation, having nine-over-nine pane timber sliding sash windows. Timber pediments on brackets surmounting first floor window openings of gable-fronted bays. Timber-framed four-light window to canted bay, having nine-over-nine pane timber sliding sash windows. Nine-over-nine pane timber sliding sash window to side (north-west) elevation. uPVC casement windows to rear. Square-headed door openings to side elevations of entrance bay, having decorative timber surrounds and timber-panelled doors. Located within own grounds.
A striking and substantial picturesque house retaining much of its historic character and fabric. Its ornately carved timber bargeboards, margined sash windows, fine doors and surrounds are noteworthy features. It would appear form cartographic evidence that this house was built on the site on an earlier one, or at least substantially remodelled and rebuilt.
