Henry John Cambie

Cambie Street in Vancouver exists because Henry John Cambie forced a railway through Fraser Canyon and planted a city at Granville. He laid the first sidewalk west of Granville Street with his own money while skeptics laughed, then helped build Christ Church Cathedral and shaped the young town for decades. The boy from County Tipperary turned a remote logging bay into a transcontinental destination, and the street still carries his name.
