Habitation site in Farrandreg

Uncovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping (Excavation Licence No. 00E0299). A hearth with an oval, round-bottomed cut and three distinct fills was found in association with a number of pits. There were no artefacts found in the hearth. One round bottomed pit (max. diam. 0.99m; D 0.21m) contained approximately 200 sherds of collared urn pottery and three sherds of possible Beaker pottery. A number of other pits and postholes were excavated in the vicinity, these however did not produce any artefacts. (Bolger 2002, 227) Reference: Bolger, T. 2002 Farrandreg, Dundalk. In I.
