Graveyard in Pottlerath, County Kilkenny, Ireland: local tradition associates Teampull-na-Rath with a vanished enclosure, while the 1839 OS Letters pictured the church standing inside a kitchen garden, fruit trees pressing against it. Perhaps burial and cultivation shared one slope for generations, the dead beneath apples and the living above them. The graveyard did not disappear so much as stop being pointed at, its boundary forgotten in the ordinary business of growing food where memory had first been kept.

On a gentle E-facing slope, with streams to the N and W. Local tradition associates the church (KK022-002----), 'Teampull-na-Rath', with an enclosure or graveyard which is no longer visible at ground level. The OS Letters (1839) describe the church as standing, ‘in the middle of a kitchen garden, having several fruit trees growing against it’ (O’Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 244-5 (81-2)).
