Graveyard in Garryntemple has vanished beneath cabbage and turnip beds, its dead reduced to soil and salad. The church still stands on a gentle hillock in County Tipperary, but no mark, stone or line gives the buried back a shape. What looked like loss may have become hospitality: the dead feeding the living, the living chewing back the dead.

On a natural hillock in gently undulating pastureland, land falling gradually to SW. Small area of quarrying, now grassed over, c. 7m N of N wall. The graveyard associated with Garryntemple church (TS082-049----) is not visible at ground level, nor is it indicated on the 1st (1843) or 2nd (1904-5) ed. OS 6-inch map. According to the OSL 'The graveyard is tilled and now producing cabbages and turnips, the human bodies being resolved into their ultimate (component) elements' (Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 42-3).
