What is recorded here

Westpalstown graveyard consists of a roughly rectangular-shaped area (dims. L 70m x Wth 60m) enclosed by a hedgerow, with ruins of the medieval church (DU007-008001-) of Westpalstown in NW corner. Situated on flat pasture with good views of the surrounding countryside. There are a considerable number of architectural fragments from the church, re-used as grave markers in the graveyard. S of the church the graves are defined by a ditched feature which runs N-S (L c. 45m), returns and then runs into a field boundary. This is probably an earlier graveyard boundary (Mc Dix 1892, 182). The graveyard was previously surveyed in 1992 (Egan). Still in use. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Updated by: Christine Baker Revised by: Caimin O'Brien Date of revised upload: 4 April 2023
