Grave Yard

Approached by laneway from S; roughly rectangular graveyard (c. 60m E-W; c. 50m N-S) enclosed by earthen fence which curves outwards on W side. Partially overgrown, but still occasionally used for burial; earliest inscribed headstones dated to 1780s, two chest tombs dated 1727 & 1818 (Coleman 1907-9i). Rectangular church (CO063-031002-), labelled 'in ruins', depicted in NW quadrant on 1842 OS 6-inch map, but marked 'site of' on 1904 OS 6-inch map; slight rise now marks site. This was ancient parish church of Templesque, in ruins by 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 351). Bullaun stone (CO063-109----) in centre of graveyard.
