What is recorded here

19th century C of I church built on site of medieval church (LI022-076001-) of Ballycahane stands in the centre of a D-shaped graveyard (approx. dims. 33m N-S x 40m E-W) enclosed by a post-1700 stone wall. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded that 'no old church ruins exist here; the present parish church was built in 1830 and it is said the walls of an old church that stood in the graveyard were pulled down to supply materials for its erection. The grave yard looks old, though perhaps not grave, is but small in extent and not much in use' (OSL 109). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 03 January 2019
