Gorey Fort

Internal diam. c. 13m-16.5m. Known as 'Gorey Fort', the site consists of a subcircular natural platform enclosed by a low earthen bank, a deep fosse and an outer bank. A causeway over the fosse and breaks in the banks indicate the location of the entrance on the E side. A sheer natural drop outside the outer bank adds to the defenses of the site. The site exploits the summit of a small grassed hill which overlooks marshland to the N and W and cultivated land to the S and E.
