What is recorded here
Gallan is a standing stone in County Cork, Ireland. It sits in pasture atop a hillock, but no visible surface trace remains. The land may have swallowed the stone or people may have moved it, yet the name still points to a vertical marker lost beneath grass and time.
In pasture atop hillock. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
