Scart Castle belonged to Clan Dermot MacCarthy and watched the southern and western horizons from a steep Cork pasture. Men likely stood on that ridge, reading weather and danger in the distance before building stone that time has mostly erased. The mound still rises above the grass, holding the shape of a room or courtyard nobody remembers clearly.

In pasture on SSW-facing slope with commanding view to S and W. Levelled; large mound (H 2.35m) in area of site. Possible fosse to N and E: inaccessible due to overgrowth. A castle associated with the Clan Dermot MacCarthy, built in the medieval period, likely during the 13th or 14th century. It is remembered as part of the regional power structure of the MacCarthy dynasty in west Cork.
