What is recorded here

Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Monroe 4 (Hardy et al. 2010, 16). It is situated in the slight valley of a NE-SW stream, which was c. 90m to the NW but is now channelled into a drain c. 230m to the NW. It was excavated (E4273) by C. Hardy who recorded a small spread of broken and burnt stone (dims 2.35m x 1.8m; max. T 0.2m), which overlay a subcircular, flat-bottomed trough (dims 2.3m x 2.08m; D 0.48m) that had been bisected by a N-S drain, but no other features were recorded. The burnt mound (WX026-039003-) is c. 65m to the WSW and the fulacht fia (WX026-090005-) is c. 80m to the NNW. (Hardy 2011; 2013) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 29 November, 2013
