Fulacht fia in Kilmacshane (turbett)

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In low-lying reclaimed pastureland to the S of an area of wood and bog land. On inspection in April 1992 this fulacht fia was defined by a well-preserved horseshoe-shaped mound (13.2m N-S; 12.8m N-S; H 0.8m). A central hollow (7.4m E-W; 4m N-S) marked the trough area. The N part of the hollow had been disturbed by livestock and some burnt stone, ash and black earth was exposed. On re-inspection in April 2008 the mound was badly poached and eroded, particularly on the W side where a round feeder had been formerly located. There are three other fulachta fia in this area - see also GA101-077----, GA101-078---- and GA101-079----. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 26 November 2019
