Two fulacht fia marked the earth near Ballygarvan church before memory faded, yet no stones or pits remain for anyone to touch. Windele wrote them down in 1918, preserving a kitchen that time has already erased. They may have steamed food, cleaned tools or gathered neighbours beside hot water, but the ground keeps that choice secret. What is left is a vacancy shaped like a meal, waiting for someone to imagine the heat.

According to O'Leary (1918, 162), 'Windele makes mention of two folacht fiaidh or prehistoric cooking places (see CO086-075----), near the church at Ballygarvan, but no traces of them remains'.
