Bullaun stone

What is recorded here

There are two bullaun stones at a grave enclosure on the site of St. Stephen’s church (WX029-013017-). A granite stone (dims. 0.7m x 0.6m; H 0.3m) with a single basin (diam. 0.33-0.35m; D 0.2m) is built into the top of the grave-enclosure wall, and another granite bullaun stone (WX029-013019-) is nearby. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 2 August, 2012
Likely dating to the early Christian or late prehistoric period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purification or as part of a sacred site associated with later ecclesiastical activity. Such stones are often linked to holy wells or saintly traditions, though specific folklore connected to Font, Morrissysland is not recorded.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
