Font in Gowran

A 13th-century font (see CW011-016006-) of Kilkenny limestone currently located inside the S entrance door of the nave of the Cathedral of St Laserian (CW011-016005-), Old Leighlin, Co. Carlow. It has a large square bowl decorated with rounded arcades resting on a large, possibly modern, drum shaped base. According to Pike (1989, 574) this font, described as 'decorated with heavy Romanesque flutes, ten on each side, Fleur-de-lis decoration on the top surface', was moved to the cathedral from St Mary's Church (KK020-060006-) in Gowran.
