Field system

What is recorded here

Located on a slight E-facing slope down to Lady’s Island Lough. The cropmarks of rectangular fields (dims c. 50m x c. 50m) covering an area of c. 60 acres (c. 24 ha) are visible on aerial photographs (CUCAP, ASZ 35, BDI 95, BDI 97; ASIAP, WX (105) 26-30). The fields are partially visible on the OSI series of aerial photographs (2000) and form strips running E-W. The ring-ditch (WX053-010003-) and rath site (WX053-010002-) are within the fields but not necessarily connected with them. No features are visible at ground level in root crops. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 25 March, 2014
