Field boundary in Maughanasilly

In rough uneven-surfaced hill pasture, on a NW-facing slope, in a clearance area within a coniferous wood. Traces of relict, mainly curvilinear, stone field boundaries (T 0.6m; H 0.4m) occur in a roughly square area (c. 170m N-S; c. 160m E-W). Stone slabs, set at right angles to the line of the wall, were noted at intervals along the field boundaries. The field walls, which protrude intermittently above the surface of the bog, are obscured by ferns and moor grass. Three fulachtaí fia (CO092-060003-, CO092-060004-, CO092-060005-) are situated immediately to the W of the relict field boundaries. A hut site (CO092-060006-) is within the area covered by the relict field boundaries. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
