Field boundary in Mangerton

In rough hill pasture, on the SW-facing slope of Mangerton Mountain, overlooking the valley of the Owbaun River to the SW. Sections of collapsed, drystone linear walls (T 1m; H 0.5m), which intersect each other at right angles in places, cover an area 350m E-W x 300m N-S. This network of relict walls is clearly visible where there is little peat cover. A typical section (L c. 130m) consists of an ENE-WSW wall which is adjoined by two N-S walls at its E and W terminals. These latter walls extend in a general N-S direction towards two small rivers, at N and S. There are two hut sites (KE084-044002-, KE084-044004-) within the E side of the network of field walls. The first of these hut sites (KE084-044002-) is 6m S of the ENE-WSW wall. The other hut site (KE084-044004-) and an enclosure (KE084-044003-) are 3m and c. 20m to the W of the N-S wall at E, respectively. There is a fulacht fia (KE084-044005-) to the SW, on the bank of the small S river. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
