Detached four-bay two-storey police station, c.1820. Renovated and refenestrated, c.1870, with single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch added. Renovated, c.1920, with single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch added. Part refenestrated, c.1995. Now in residential use. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Flat felt roofs to porches (behind moulded timber cornice to earlier porch). Unpainted roughcast walls. Square-headed window openings with stone sills. Replacement 1/1 timber sash windows, c.1870, with some replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1995. Square-headed window openings to porches with stone sills, and fixed-pane timber windows. Square-headed door openings with glazed timber panelled door to earlier porch, and timber panelled door to later porch. Road fronted with sections of hoop iron railings to front.
A well-proportioned building retaining most of its original form and massing, together with some early salient features and materials. Of particular importance for its original intended use, the building represents one of the earliest purpose-built civic buildings in the locality. The building remains an attractive component of the landscape, while the early hoop iron railings enhance the visual appeal of the site.
