Father Murphy's Bridge

Triple-arch limestone road bridge over Glen River, dated 1867, with rubble walls having cut-stone copings to parapet walls. Carved limestone date plaque to north parapet wall with dressed and tooled chamfered surround. Segmental arches with dressed voussoirs and dressed stone V-cutwaters.

This solidly-constructed and well-designed bridge is a fine example of the skilled engineering and stone-crafting of the late nineteenth century. Its shallow segmental arches and U-cutwaters are typical features of bridges of its time and the large blocks used in its construction add to the solid appearance. W.A Treacey was the engineer and John Kelly the contractor during the bridge's construction.
