Fairy fort in Treagh, County Louth: a sub-circular earth-and-stone bank enclosing thirty metres of interior, with no recognisable entrance. That much is clear. What is not clear is whether the missing gate is an oversight of measurement or an admission that the place does not want to be entered by ordinary people. The fairness in the name may be mockery, warning, or invitation. A fort without a door is either finished or waiting.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular area (int. dims. 30m E-W, 27.5m N-S) enclosed by earth and stone bank (Wth 4.7m, H c. 0.3m internally, 1.4m externally). No recognisable entrance or fosse.
