What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Tobernea West, County Limerick: an earthen ringfort, roughly 29m by 24m, mapped in 1840 and still visible as a banked oval in pasture. It may have been a farmstead, a refuge, or a boundary marker; the earth remembers shape even when the story is lost.
In pasture 150m E of the townland boundary with Effin. Depicted as a circular shaped earthwork on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. It is shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised oval-shaped area (dims. c. 29m NE-SW; 24m NW-SE) defined by a scarp. Monument is visible as roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank with traces of a possible external fosse on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13. Outline of monument partially delimited by bushes is visible on Google Earth orthoimages.
