Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Templemichael

Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed by later belief, often abandoned when iron tools or changing power made them useless. In Templemichael, an earthen bank still marks a small occupied place on an open slope, with a narrower external ridge and broken ground beside it. People may have lived there, herded animals or fled into the country when danger came. The fairies belong to the legend, not the architecture.
