Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Stonepark (ardagh By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible entrance marks the 41.7m circle in Stonepark, though a low earthen bank and faint outer ditch still trace its edge. Cattle graze beside the ruin now, unaware that people once shaped this slope into a defended home. The missing gateway does not mean the fort stopped existing; it means the land took back the shape and keeps the memory instead.
On a N-facing slope in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 41.7m) enclosed by a partially denuded, wide, low bank of earth and stone (Wth 4.5m; H 0.3m) with traces of a shallow external fosse (Wth c. 3.2m; D 0.1m). From SSE-S-N the bank has been modified and incorporated into a field boundary. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011
