Moss and birch have strangled the fort, but the ridge still holds a circular memory beneath the leaves. People may have lived inside the bank before trees took the field, or perhaps the land merely imagined a fortress and dressed it in green. Either way, the shape resists forgetting.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Roughly circular raised area (int. dims. 35m E-W, 32.5m N-S) delimited by an earthen bank (Wth 2.2m at top; H 2.1m externally, 0.5m internally). Wide (3m) external fosse, recut in parts to form a modern ditch. Entrance with causeway across fosse at W, probably ancient. The site is located on a slight E-W ridge in a tree plantation on demesne lands and may have been adapted at a later date as a tree-ring.
