Mother and child, cliff and sky, victim and hero: the coast keeps repeating one lesson. People come here to watch, photograph, or love the view. The sea does not care whether you understand it. That is why the place still speaks.

Situated in a field known as 'Tobar Muire' and indicated but not named on 1865 OS map (revision) (Coyle 1956, 204-5). When inspected by ASI in 1967 it was closed up. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 4 July 2012

Linked to Saint Mary, the well was traditionally visited for healing and protection, with "Tobar Muire" meaning "Mary's Well" in Irish. Such wells were often sites of pilgrimage and associated with miraculous cures in early Christian Ireland.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
