Fairy forts are often claimed by humans because they are useful: defensible, visible, defensible again after rebuilding. The oval bank in Loumanagh South is no longer a sharp fortress but a living edge, tall enough to mark, smooth enough to touch. That is why people remember them: they give back shape when tired, and witness when forgotten.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842, 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; slightly oval area (35m E-W; 29m N-S) defined by levelled bank visible as soilmark in reseeded field. Interior slightly raised; slopes gently down to S. Probably site referred to by Bowman (1934, 519) as oval-shaped ringfort (41yd by 34yd) on J. O'Connell's land; fosse infilled, bank c. 8ft H outside and c. 5ft H inside. Aerial photograph (CASAP) dated 28-06-1984 shows site upstanding and bank planted with trees. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
