Knocknageeha West held a double-ramparted fort nearly fifty yards across, visible on maps until ploughs erased it. The earth rose above pasture and dropped sharply toward a stream valley, marking a boundary between human ownership and forgotten depth. Fairy forts invite this reading: not deception, but memory shifted into landscape. What was built, defended and lost there may still shape the field, even when no stone remains to prove it.

In pasture, on elevated piece of ground which slopes down gently from site to S and W, with a sharp drop in gradient on N side down to stream valley. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps; hachured as bivallate on 1904 OS 6-inch map, at SE corner of small plantation; inner defences hachured as scarp on 1938 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace of site. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 275) as double-ramparted fort (diam. c. 49yd) on Stephen Walsh's land, with ' inner rampart and two-thirds of outer rampart' levelled. Also recorded by Broker (1937, 51) as in the 'Wood field'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
