Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilnamullaun (killimor Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Killimor Ed contained a fifty-metre oval ringfort that people called a fairy fort before machines levelled it in the early 1970s. The earth vanished from the living landscape, yet the shape still emerges in aerial photography. Forgetting the name did not erase the boundary; it only moved the boundary out of human sight.
In undulating grassland. Marked on the 1945 revision of the OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (c. 50m N-S; c. 40m E-W). Known locally as a ‘fort’, it was levelled in the early 1970s. No visible surface trace survives, however, its outline is visible on the OSi Ortho_ITM aerial photography. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 2 April 2019
