Fairy forts are earthen rings where people once lived, fenced and farmed before memory faded. In Gortmore, a levelled single-ramparted fort about thirty-nine yards across stood on J. Archdeacon's land, recorded by Bowman in 1934. Its exact spot has been lost, but the ring remains in description: a small human world made of soil, now invisible beneath grass or fields.
