Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Danganbeg

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Danganbeg, County Limerick: a 35-metre earthen ring now reduced to a faint raised disc with a shallow outer dip. The 1924 map still shows its embankment, but ploughing and boundary changes have erased most of the shape. People may have lived there, excluded others by its circle, or abandoned it when the land was remade. What remains is a mild swelling in ordinary pasture, large enough to mark and quiet enough to forget.
In level pasture. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure on 1924 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled and surrounding field boundaries removed. Area of site discernable as very slightly raised circular area (diam. 35m) with slight dip along its outside edge. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
