Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Crossagalla

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

That is the shape of a room built without walls, a circular chamber where the floor is living grass and the ceiling is open sky. It is the oldest building in the area and the largest empty room in the world. A fort is a place for remembering, not a warning about danger. Everything written about it is a shadow of the shape it holds.
Situated in gently undulating pasture with good views in all directions. Indicated on the 1924 OS 6-inch map as a sub-circular area (c. 30m N-S; c. 30m E-W) enclosed by a bank, bisected by a field boundary, which is also a townland boundary. The monument is inaccessible due to scrub vegetation growth.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
