Fairy fort in Coolboy, County Cork: a circular earthworks in pasture, 23 to 26 metres across, with a low bank and a gap to the north. It is the kind of place people once called a fairy fort because it looked like a house made by someone else. A person could have stood at that gap, looked across the slope, and carried milk, butter, firewood or a child into the middle. The measurement makes it human; the name keeps the mystery alive.

In pasture, on break in S-facing slope. Circular, slightly raised area (23m N-S; 26.6m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.3m) SSW->E, scarp elsewhere. Break in bank (Wth 3.2m) to N.
