Freestanding two-stage bell tower flanked by pair of entrances, built c.1890. Hipped slate roof with painted timber cross finial. Smooth render to walls with red brick string courses and dressings to openings. Inset carved limestone name plaque, taken from ruined chapel to site. Pointed arch openings to second stage, surrounding cast-iron bell. Segmental-headed opening to rear (north) elevation, with timber panelled door. Segmental arches to flanking entrances having red brick voussoirs and cast-iron double-leaf gates. Set within rubble stone enclosing walls. Remains of Saint Mary's Church and graveyard to site.

This gateway, with its integral bell tower, is a fine structure which adds greatly to the area's character. As well as being an important structure in isolation, its connection with the ruins of St. Mary's Church and the accompanying graveyard adds to its significance and interest.
