Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowntornan,clare is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowntornan,clare, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a gentle south-west-facing slope as a grass-covered D-shaped area measuring thirty-five metres north-west to south-east and twenty-one and a half metres north-east to south-west. A fosse two to two point three metres wide at its base and a shallow outer bank one point six metres wide mark its south-east, west and north-west edges, while a north-west to south-east field bank with a hedge bisects the site as the boundary with Clare townland.

On a gentle SW-facing slope. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 35m NW-SE; 21.5m NE-SW) defined by a fosse (Wth of base 2-2.3m; int. D 0.2-0.3m; ext. D 0.2-0.3m) SE-W-NW, and a slight, but overgrown outer bank (Wth 1.6m; ext. H 0.1m) SE-W. It is bisected by a NW-SE field bank with a hedge, which is the townland boundary with Clare townland, but it does not survive NE of this feature. The remains of a field bank (Wth 1.3m; H 0.1m) crosses the fosse at SSW. but the original entrance is not identified. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
