Fairy forts are not fairy forts at all, but human ringforts misnamed after the facts stopped being remembered. This one in Carrig is a slightly raised circular enclosure, about twenty-three metres across, bounded by an earth and stone bank that rises higher on one side than the other. It sits atop a hill in pasture, with a possible underground passage inside, the kind of place where ordinary life may have become so complete it sounded like mystery to later listeners.
