What is recorded here
Barneygole holds a forgotten ringfort where a twenty-four metre earth bank once enclosed human life. The grass has swallowed the entrance and the shallow ditch, leaving only a subtle rise in low pasture. The fort disappeared not through destruction but patience, becoming a field where the shape of human urgency faded into ordinary ground.
In low-lying pasture. A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded a raised circular area (diam. c. 24m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone with a shallow external fosse. The original entrance was not recognisable. The rath is not visible at ground level.
