Fairy forts in Ballymacmoy are earthen rings, not magic castles. The local name records that people once believed the fairies lived there or owned the shape. The ring itself is human in origin, built as a boundary, home or marker in wet low land.

In level low lying wet land. Circular area (24m N-S; 24m E-W) enclosed by low earthen bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.35m); external fosse (D 0.65m). Fosse wet throughout and covered with reeds. Interior slightly raised; briars growing at centre appear to cover a high point. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
