Danish Fort label, Bateman map 50, 1716-17; second most northerly of five close-set possible raths aligned roughly N-S in Ballylusky, County Cork. Now in tillage on level ground and not visible at ground level, the fort has surrendered its shape to plough, rain and time. Whatever stood there may have been a trader post, a seasonal camp or a boundary marker for neighbours who no longer remember the name. The land keeps the claim even when the earth has erased the edge.
