Fairy forts are often earthen rings, not magical castles. In Ballinvarrig West, a circular enclosure about twenty-five metres across stood in pasture until ploughing and foot traffic softened it into low undulations. The name may preserve a forgotten warning, a child’s story, or a joke about the dead, but the earth still holds the shape of a place people once drew a line around.
