Excavation near Rathcormac and Fermoy revealed an isolated pit, a shallow charcoal spread and a worked stone implement, yet none appeared connected or purposeful. The N8 bypass builders uncovered them in 2003 after discovery in 2002, forcing a hurried reading of facts that refused to assemble. Perhaps a person dropped a tool, lit a small fire and left before memory could give the act a shape.

Discovered in 2002 and subsequently excavated in 2003 in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. Excavation revealed an isolated pit of unknown date and a shallow charcoal spread which, according to the excavator (O'Neill, 75), was apparently unassociated. Both features were isolated and had no apparent function. A worked stone implement of unknown date or function was discovered close to the charcoal spread.
