Mistaken identity is common in archaeology. What first appeared to be human cremation proved to be animal bone once properly examined. The difference between the two changes the meaning of the hole, the ceremony and the people who used it.

Excavated in advance of construction of the N9/N10 Kilcullen-Waterford Road (Excavation Licence number E2594), a pit (L 1.2m; Wth 0.6m; D 0.33m) initially interpreted as containing human burnt bone but post excavation analysis identified it as animal bone.
