Excavation

Discovered in 1986 during construction of Bruff-Mallow gas pipeline (Gowen 1988, 125), c. 25m S of circular structure (11999); site severely truncated prior to investigation. Main feature was oval hearth (1.1m E-W; 0.6m N-S) flanked by 14 stake-holes to N and 17 to SW. Five irregular pits surrounded hearth at distance of 2-3.5m; these had similar stony grey fills with some charcoal; one pit produced fragments of burnt bone and a piece of iron slag.
