Enclosure in Priorpark

Situated in rolling grounds a few hundred metres NNE of Priorpark House. Indicated as an irregular, tree-covered site on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map. A roughly circular area (diam. 31.6m N-S; 34.6m E-W) enclosed by a bank (Wth 5.2m; int. H 0.46m; ext. H 1.53m), a fosse (Wth 4.6m; D 0.85m) and an outer bank at W (Wth 3.7m; ext. H 1.15m). This outer bank joins the inner bank at N and peters out in the SW sector. The bank from N to SE is revetted with drystone walling. The interior slopes to the E and there is no visible entrance feature. A field bank runs parallel to the site at S. Mature beech trees growing around the bank suggest that this site may have been used as a tree-ring. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
