Enclosure in Barnacurra

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Barnacurra in County Cork, Ireland holds a vanished fort recorded by Bowman in 1934. It stood inside T. Murphy's land, but even then no wall, ditch or mound remained visible. The enclosure escaped notice, measurement and memory, leaving behind only the admission that it disappeared.
Bowman (1934, 156) records levelled fort in T. Murphy's; 'there is now no sign of it'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
