Enclosure in Ballinunty (graystown Par.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On the flat top of a hill in undulating terrain, in pasture. There are good to extensive views to N, E and W, though poor to the S where the view is impeded by a neighbouring ridge. A ringfort (TS054-016----) is visible on the hill to the NNW. Identified on OS Ortho and Digitalglobe imagery (viewed 25 September 2017). A much denuded circular area (diam. 25.1m N-S; 24.2m E-W) enclosed by a flattened bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.17m). The entrance was probably in the ESE where there is no evidence of a bank and the interior slopes down to the exterior. There is a slight suggestion of an external fosse (Wth c. 4.5m) in the SW quadrant. The interior slopes slightly to the NE. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 September 2017
