Embanked enclosure

Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope in the valley of the NW-SE River Tay with the stream c. 130m to the W. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims. 41m E-W; 34m N-S) defined by an overgrown earth and stone bank (Wth 5-6m; int. H 0.8-1.4m; ext. H 0.9-1.8m), with the remains of an outer fosse (Wth at base 1.5-3m; ext. D 0.2-1.1m) W-N-E. Both the bank and fosse are best preserved at W, and the monument is circumscribed by a field bank W-NE. There are gaps at N, NNE and S but the riginal entrance cannot be recognised. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
